Wu Poh Yin, PBS, CNA,
is a disciple of Mrs Joanna Wong, BBM, JP, from the Chinese Theatre Circle, and
she has been trained in the performance arts of Chinese opera for more than 20 years.
Over the years, Wu Poh Yin has performed over hundreds of opera acts in Singapore and 9 other countires including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Malaysia, Romania and United Stated of America, with an international viewership of over millions of audience. Under the auspices of the National Arts Council and her opera troupe, she has the opportunity to visit many schools and educational institutions in Singapore, presenting demonstrations and performances of Chinese Opera to thousands of students since 1995. In 15 October 1999, she was among the first group of opera artistes who presented a charity Opera "Madam White Snake" at the Neptune Theatre Restaurant in aid of the Dover park Hospice with dialogue and singing in English, the first of its kind in Singapore. Her most recent break-through performance was casting the Green Snake in the Malay-version of the Opera excerpt "Picking the Bracelet" at Jubilee Hall on 25 August 2001, creating a pioneer in the Opera history in Singapore. The show was so successful that it attracted immediate attention from the government, mass media coverage and the supports from the Malay community. Performance List
